HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. — An Alabama firefighter has been indicted on charges of rape and other sexual offenses after a woman told first responders during a medical call that he had sexually assaulted her multiple times.
Steven Todd Hallford, 51, was arrested last October while on duty with the Slocomb Fire Department, and was indicted this week on two counts of first-degree rape and four counts of first-degree sodomy, according to AL.com.
Police said a woman who had called emergency services after falling out of her wheelchair told first responders while being medically evaluated that Hallford, who lived in the same trailer park as her, sexually assaulted her several times over the course of a year, according to the Dothan Eagle.
WTVY reports that investigators believe Hallford had previously assisted the woman while on duty and allegedly returned to her residence while off duty to assault her. Police say there is DNA evidence in the case.
Hallford was released on a $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court for an arraignment hearing on Sept. 8.
