BALTIMORE — A Baltimore man pleaded guilty Wednesday to obstructing firefighters during the unrest that followed the death of Freddie Gray last April, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Gregory Lee Butler Jr., 22, pleaded guilty to puncturing a hose that the Baltimore City Fire Department was using to put out a fire in a CVS pharmacy at the intersection of Pennsylvania and North avenues on April 27, 2015, a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office read.
Around 6:30 p.m., according to the statement, firefighters received reports of the fire at 2509 Pennsylvania Ave. in the Penn North neighborhood. After they had connected a hose to a nearby hydrant, Butler punctured it in two places with a knife, rendering it useless.
Butler will face up to five years in prison on the federal charge, the statement read. His sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 20.
Four other people face arson charges related to the unrest.
