PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — A firefighter is fighting for his life after being diagnosed with a rare degenerative heart disease.
Dale McNeill, a 17-year veteran, is currently hospitalized and heavily sedated, reported ABC. McNeill collapsed and went into sudden cardiac arrest in October, days before his wedding.
After an annual physical, doctors told McNeill he suffers a rare condition known as giant cell myocarditis; there are less than 300 cases on record.
“I do the horrible thing that all people do,” McNeill’s fiance, Chris Webb, said. “I got on Google and I lost it.”
A YouCaring page has raised nearly $40,000 to pay for McNeill’s medical expenses.
