Video: Firefighters free trapped ambulance employees who crashed into pole

It took more than 30 minutes to extricate them; police are investigating if the driver fell asleep

ORANGE, Calif. — Firefighters rescued two men trapped in an ambulance that crashed into a pole Sunday morning near Children’s Hospital of Orange County, authorities said.

The crash happened about 6:40 a.m. when the ambulance was traveling northbound on Main Street from La Veta Avenue and hit a pole, police Sgt. Bryan Meissner said.

Two Lynch Ambulance employees were trapped inside and it took firefighters more than 30 minutes to free them, said Paul Sitkoff, the city’s public information officer.
