DALLAS — A firefighter who was killed in a New York City helicopter crash while on vacation returned home.

NBC DFW reported that the body of Dallas Fire-Rescue firefighter Brian McDaniel was greeted with a water cannon salute from his colleagues at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

D/FW Airport firefighters then joined in to pay their respects as the American flag-draped casket was transferred to a hearse.

The hearse was led in a procession by a fire engine and ladder truck to a funeral home.

McDaniel was visiting his longtime friend Trevor Cadigan in New York City, who also died when the tourist helicopter they were in crashed into the East River.

McDaniel’s family is suing Liberty Helicopters and claims the passenger harness systems are a “death trap” in water crash incidents.
