TRENTON, N.J. — Natasha Rivera has wanted to become a firefighter since she was a kid. And in honor of her late father, that dream will soon become reality.
NJ.com reported that Trenton firefighter Manny Rivera, Natasha’s father, died in 2009 when she was 17 years old. Rivera, 42, a 14-year veteran and father of five, died after collapsing at a fire.
Rivera said she’s ready to start working as a Trenton firefighter, but has thought about her father every step of the way.
“I love helping … helping the community,” she said. “I can hold my own, too.”
Rivera was the 23rd Trenton Fire Department firefighter to die in the line of duty.
