CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Two firefighter brothers who died within hours of each other last week were laid to rest in a joint funeral this morning.

Former Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company Chief Mark Nanna, 56, died Wednesday morning due to complications from an infection; his brother, former Fire Company President Lee Nanna, 69, died from a heart attack just five hours later.

“Lee died of a broken heart because of his brother. He just couldn’t take it,” Firefighter Gary Brewer told KDKA.

The brothers’ funeral was held Tuesday morning with dozens of firefighters in attendance. A procession escorted them to Dutilh United Methodist Church, led by two Cranberry fire company vehicles.

Both brothers were life members of the company; Mark Nanna also served as fire prevention administrator for the town’s building and zoning codes department.
