Firefighters use flag found intact after wildfire to honor fallen comrades

The Alameda County Fire Department honored “the firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice” by lowering the flag to half-staff

REDDING, Calif. — A firefighter crew who found a flag fully intact in an area that was ravaged by wildfires used the moment to honor their fallen comrades.

According to a Facebook post by the Alameda County Fire Department, ACFD Battalion Chief Chuck Palmer and a crew from the Moraga-Orinda Fire District found the flag at the Whiskeytown Cemetery while on an assignment to check an area affected by the Carr Fire.

“To honor the firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice while fighting the Carr Fire and Ferguson Fire, Battalion Chief Palmer and Moraga-Orinda firefighters were determined to lower the flag to half-staff in their memory,” the post said.
