ROCKVILLE, Md. — Funerals are being held for a firefighter and an FBI agent killed in a series of highway crashes.
WTOP reported that the separate funerals began at 11 a.m. Thursday, with Deputy Chief Fire Marshal Sander Cohen’s funeral being held in Rockville and Special Agent Carlos Wolff being laid to rest in Gaithersburg.
Maryland Governor Larry Hogan ordered flags to be flown at half-staff and spoke at Cohen’s funeral. Cohen was given a line of duty death funeral with full honors.
Police said Cohen stopped to help Wolff, who had been in an apparent single-vehicle crash and was in the fast lane of the highway. The two men were on the shoulder of the highway when another vehicle swerved and hit them.
“Deputy Chief Cohen had no idea that inside the vehicle he stopped to help was another law enforcement officer,” Maryland State Police superintendent Col. William Pallozzi said. “Deputy Chief Cohen never hesitated to provide that help.”
