LOGAN, W. Va. — A West Virginia firefighter died in an ATV crash over the weekend.
The Logan Fire Department responded to an ATV crash to find out that one of their own firefighters was behind the wheel, Eyewitness News WCHS ABC 8 reports. Firefighter Ernie Woods, 46, was involved in a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer on his way back from riding his ATV.
According to the police, Woods was pronounced dead at the scene.

“When you find out it’s one of your brothers, it makes it’s double hard,” Logan Fire Chief Scott Beckett said. “But on the flip side, I’d rather it be us taking care of our own people.”
Woods is the third firefighter the department has lost in the last six months.
“We’ve lost three people from our department; our fire commissioner passed away, we had another firefighter had a heart attack and now Ernie. It’s been a rough year, but we have a job to do,” Becket said.
