3 firefighters injured in fatal house fire

When crews arrived, they were unable to get into the home due to heavy smoke and flames

WEST NEWBURY, Mass. — Three firefighters suffered non-life threatening injuries working a fatal house fire Tuesday.

WCVB.com reported the fire broke out around 7:15 a.m. When crews arrived, they were unable to get into the home due to heavy smoke and flames.

“This was an extremely involved fire, and it took the combined efforts of several fire departments to bring the fire under control,” said West Newbury Fire Chief Michael Dwyer.

The three injured firefighters were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

It took about an hour and 40 minutes for firefighters to get the fire under control. After the fire was extinguished, a man’s body was found in the home.

The victim is believed to be the homeowner, but officials are waiting for a positive identification from the medical examiner before releasing the man’s identity.
