GREENVILLE, N.C. — The body of a 20-year-old North Carolina volunteer firefighter who disappeared while fishing with friends was found Wednesday.
WNCN.com reported Anthony Brunett’s body was found in Tar River by Deputy Brice Wordsworth.
“I am saddened to find the remains, but I hope that this will give the family of Anthony Brunett some peace and closure,” Wordsworth said.
Brunett had gone fishing with three friends on March 13 when they went for a swim. He vanished underwater and never resurfaced.
Brunett was a member of the Heartsease Volunteer Fire Department. Fire officials released a statement in response to his death.
“Anthony was a beloved and dedicated member. He started out as a junior firefighter, and through hard work and dedication, worked his way up to the rank of firefighter. He was always willing to learn more about the fire service so that he could become the best firefighter he could be. Anthony was outgoing and made everyone feel like a family member to him.”
