Grandmother rescued by firefighter who shared mask dies

The firefighter climbed a ladder to a burning third-floor apartment to share his mask with the 65-year-old woman

WASHINGTON — The grandmother rescued by D.C. firefighter who shared his oxygen mask with her during an apartment fire earlier this month has died, according to family members.

Tyrika Terrell said her grandmother Phyllis Terrell, 65, died Thursday night around 10:30 p.m. from complications in her lungs and smoke from the fire.

The fire broke in the 1700 block of Minnesota Ave. on March 8.
