MARION, S.C. — A probationary volunteer firefighter died Monday after becoming involved in a multiple vehicle crash.

U.S. Fire Administration reported that Amy Dimmery, 34, with the Marion Rural Fire Department, responded to a motor vehicle crash on Jan. 2. Before making it back home, she and her husband, also a firefighter, were involved in a car crash in their personal vehicle.

Dimmery was entrapped and crews began resuscitation efforts upon arrival. She was taken by an ambulance to a hospital, where she died as a result of her injuries.

“She loved helping people, she loved fire service, she was just getting into it really deep and it is just so heartbreaking she won’t be here to help people anymore,” fellow volunteer firefighter Reagan Jackson told WBTW.

Her husband, Freddie, remains in the hospital in serious condition.

The crash remains under investigation and funeral arrangements are pending.
