HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A firefighter died Monday when two vehicles caught fire after colliding, according to officials.
FOX29 reported that Lambertville Fire District firefighter Mark Leary Sr. was one of two people in a sedan that died in the vehicle crash.
Officials said the driver of the truck involved in the crash was able to escape unharmed.
“Rescue 17 responded to this call unknowing that it involved one of our own until hours later,” the fire department posted on Facebook. “Mark was always willing to help you no matter the circumstances, and often stepped up to the plate when nobody else would.”
The crash is currently under investigation.
