PALMYRA TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A 22-year-old volunteer firefighter was killed in a car crash Saturday afternoon.

WNEP.com reported that Steven Boo, with the Forest Volunteer Fire Department, was going to a county fair when he was killed. Fellow firefighters said his death is devastating.

“He was an excellent firefighter, an excellent asset to this department and to our community,” Fire Chief Wayne Rosengrant said. “When somebody has a tragedy, we are there for them but what’s unfortunate is when we have a tragedy, it’s hard for us to rally around but we do what we have to do.”

Boo’s girlfriend was also in the car, but was not injured. Both were wearing seat belts, according to the report.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
