NEW YORK — In front of tens of thousands of baseball fans Wednesday night, the son of fallen FDNY Battalion Chief Michael Fahy threw the Mets’ first pitch.
The New York Mets honored Fahy by having his son, Michael Jr., 11, throw the first pitch in their wild-card game against the San Francisco Giants.

“My nephew Michael, he really is the biggest Mets fan,” Deirdre Brett, Michael Jr.’s aunt, told the NY Daily News. “This was a huge night for him and for the family. The smile that the Mets put on those children’s faces, we’re very very grateful.”
Before the game, several Mets players met with Fahy’s wife and three children, who were outfitted with Mets jerseys.

Fahy, 44, was killed in a gas explosion Sept. 27 that left over a dozen other first responders injured.
The Mets lost the playoff game 3-0, reported CBS New York.
