LONDON — Firefighter Erin Fairhead has broken a world record as the fastest woman to run a marathon while wearing full gear.
According to ITV.com, Fairhead completed the London Marathon in 4:09:32. The previous record was 5:38.
“I finished more quickly than I thought I would but it was hard and my feet are hurting so I’m planning to rest for a couple of days,” Fairhead said.
Fairhead’s record time has been confirmed and recorded by Guinness World Records.
Fairhead participated in the marathon to also raise funds for the Fire Fighters Charity.
“It was an amazing atmosphere and everyone was really encouraging, I don’t think a minute went past without someone patting me on the back and saying well done,” she said.
