CONWAY, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Public Safety released its initial incident report that describes what happened on March 20 when Conway firefighter Christopher Ray died.
Myrtle Beach Sun News reported that the driver of the fire truck was backing up at a house fire when Ray attempted to jump onto the rig, slipped and got tangled in fire hose. The truck then backed over Ray in the road.
Ray, 42, was killed in what the fire chief described as a “tragic accident.” Original reports said Ray fell from the back of the fire truck and was then struck as it reversed down a nearby street.
