170 Chicago firefighters battle massive warehouse blaze

It took one-third of on-duty personnel to control the fire

CHICAGO — 170 firefighters were called to battle a massive warehouse blaze Wednesday morning, making it the department’s largest response in seven years.

The 170 firefighters constitutes a third of the Chicago Fire Department’s on-duty personnel, according to WGNTV.

Although most of the fire is out, crews still remain at the scene checking for hotspots after the blaze broke out late Tuesday night.

A department chief who happened to be driving by and saw the blaze made the call.

One firefighter injured his back battling the flames, but no one else was hurt.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
