2 firefighters hurt battling strip mall blaze

One firefighter suffered smoke inhalation and the other was hurt after he touched a chain link fence connected to a live wire

SAN GABRIEL, Calif. — Flames tore through a strip mall Thursday night in San Gabriel and injured two firefighters.

The 3-alarm fire started around 7:20 p.m. and may have began as a vehicle fire.

The blaze quickly spread through a strip mall in the 200 block of South San Gabriel Boulevard, which was closed a block in both directions, as thick, plumes of smoke blanketed the area. A Chinese gift shop. a T-Mobile store, and another business have been gutted by the flames, according to SKY9′s Stu Mundel. The gift shop has been in business for decades.
