FRESNO, Calif. — Two firefighters were injured Sunday evening in a four-alarm fire after an apartment building roof collapsed.
The Fresno Bee reported that the fire was driven by winds, spread to a fence and jumped to a one-story, six-unit apartment building, raising a third alarm.
Three firefighters were inside the structure when the roof collapsed, injuring two of them and prompting a mayday call, according to the report. A fourth alarm was issued and nearly 80 percent of the city’s firefighter resources came to the scene.
The firefighters were quickly rescued and the fire was contained, according to the report. No residents were hurt, although a dog was trapped in one apartment and suffered smoke inhalation, according to Fresno Fire Chief Rob Brown.
Both firefighters’ injuries were described as minor and investigators are trying to determine what caused the fire, according to the report.
