YORK COUNTY, Pa. — An electrical issue is being blamed for Friday night’s blaze in York County, where a woman died from smoke inhalation.
Miriam Grothe, 78, was trapped inside her home in the 900 block of New Bridgeville Road in Chanceford Township.
A firefighter was able to rescue her from the flames, but both were taken to York Hospital for treatment.
CBS 21 News is told the firefighter was treated and released, but the coroner says Grothe died just after 8:30 p.m.
Crews spent hours battling the blaze at Grothe’s home. According to the police report, the fire has been ruled accidental.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control by 11 p.m., but State Police say their efforts to battle the flames were hampered by a “hoarding” situation.
