ALAMO, Calif. —Two firefighters were hospitalized Wednesday after helping to extinguish a fire that destroyed the upper part of a house on Lark Court in Alamo on Tuesday night, a San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District official said.
Both firefighters were expected to be released from the hospital Tuesday night after helping to put out the two-alarm blaze that started around 8:10 p.m., Fire Chief Richard Price said. One suffered a laceration to the hand, and the other had injuries to his neck and arm.
The two occupants of the house escaped without injury, Price said. The fire began when heat and embers got into the chimney flue, sending flames upward into the attic. Most of the top of the house, including the ceiling and the second floor, was destroyed. Price estimated the damage at $600,000.
Firefighters needed less than an hour to put out the blaze, Price said.
