WAYNE, N.J. — Two firefighters were taken to the hospital with minor injuries Saturday night after five fire companies knocked down a blaze in a single-family home on Black Oak Ridge Road, police said. A family dog was rescued.
A motorist who saw heavy smoke and a glow in a bedroom window called in the alarm at about 8:30 p.m. Four fire companies from Wayne and one from Haledon battled the blaze, police said.
The township Fire Department cleared the scene at 11:20 p.m.
No one was home at the time but a dog was pulled from the basement, a police spokesman said.
The fire is under investigation.
One firefighter had a shoulder injury and another complained of dizziness, police said. They were treated at Chilton Hospital in Pequannock.
Police said they did not know the extent of damage to the house. It is uninhabitable pending review by the township engineer.
