LANCASTER, Pa. — Two people jumped from a second-floor window to escape a house fire in Terre Hill on Tuesday morning, a fire official said.

The blaze struck a 2½-story home at 308 W. Main St. around 7 a.m., Terre Hill Fire Company Chief Troy Weaver said.

The fire awakened a man and a woman inside the home, he said.

They broke out a second-floor bedroom window and jumped about 12 feet to the ground to escape from the smoky home before firefighters arrived, Weaver said. No one was injured.

Weaver said he didn’t know the names of the man and woman, but he said they appeared to be in their 30s.

The fire apparently started on the first floor, he said.

Flames significantly damaged the first floor, and there was smoke damage throughout the home, Weaver said. He estimated damage at $80,000 to the structure and $70,000 to its contents.

About 35 firefighters from five area companies brought the fire under control shortly after 7:30 a.m., he said.

Trooper Brian Herr, a state police fire marshal, said the cause of the fire was “undetermined,” according to Weaver.
