2 Miss. firefighters briefly trapped in house fire

Both firefighters were taken to a hospital, where they were reported in good condition

JACKSON, Miss. — Two firefighters were rescued after becoming briefly trapped inside a house fire Tuesday.

WAPT reported that the firefighters, with the Jackson (Miss.) Fire Department, were called at about 8 a.m., where black smoke was seen billowing out the door and windows. An EMT was seen treating one of the firefighters for an injury to his arm. Both firefighters were taken to a hospital, where they were reported in good condition.

Extra units were called to make sure the flames didn’t reach nearby trees, which could have spread the fire to neighboring homes.

Authorities said the fire started in the basement of the two-story home. Neighbors reported hearing explosions before the fire.

The fire was under control by 11 a.m. The cause is under investigation.
