Syracuse, N.Y. — A house fire on the North Side of Syracuse Wednesday spread to an adjacent house and injured two firefighters before it was contained.

The fire occurred around 2 p.m. at 111 Hier Ave.

Lt. John Cussen, a fire investigator, said the fire started in the second floor of the two and a half story wood-frame house, which is vacant. It later spread to the house next door at 109 Hier Ave. and caused heavy fire damage before it was brought under control, he said.
