PHILADELPHIA — An early-morning house fire in Frankford proved also to be a major hazard to the firefighters who were called to scene yesterday.
Three firefighters ended up at Temple University Hospital with non-life-threatening injures sustained while battling the 8:30 a.m. blaze at a three-story home in the 1100 block of Arrott Street.
A 41-year-old firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation; a 52-year-old was treated for burns on his ear and neck, and a third firefighter, whose age was not given, was hurt in a fall, according to the Fire Department.
A civilian was also treated at Temple for burn injures.
In an unrelated fire, two dozen apartments were destroyed by a three-alarm blaze that broke out at a Pottstown, Montgomery County, apartment complex at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
It took firefighters more than an hour to get control of that fire at the Wexford Apartments.
Though no one was injured, about 30 people were left homeless and in need of shelter provided by family, friends or the Southeastern Pennsylvania chapter of the American Red Cross.
