JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Three firefighters suffered electrical shocks, another suffered a cut to the bridge of his nose and a civilian suffered smoke inhalation at a two-alarm apartment building fire Wednesday.

NJ.com reported that the first firefighter who was shocked was attempting to cut off the electrical power in the building’s basement. Firefighting efforts were hampered by the live wires until the electric and gas company shut the power off, according to the report.

The building is under renovation and a painter suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to the hospital. A captain and two firefighters who were shocked were also taken to a hospital, as well as the firefighter who suffered a cut, according to the report. They are all expected to be OK.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
