NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine — The State Fire Marshal’s Office has charged three teenagers with arson after a vacant house was destroyed by fire over the weekend.
According to a press release from Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, the fire broke out just after 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11, at 5 Missy Lane inside a raised ranch that had been vacant for more than three years.
The building was owned by a financial institution and the power had been turned off.
Working with the New Gloucester Fire Department, Fire Marshal investigators charged three 13-year-old boys with arson on Monday.
The boys, from Gray and New Gloucester, were released to the custody of their parents.
Investigators say the fire started in the basement of the house and the damage was so severe that the building has been demolished.
