WINNIPEG — Five people were taken to hospital Tuesday night following a house fire in Winnipeg’s north end.

Media reports say four people are dead, but that has not been confirmed.

Platoon Chief Don Shellrude told radio station CJOB that two adult females, two children and an infant were all transported to hospital.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but it is believed to have started in the home’s basement.

The lone occupant in an adjoining residence was evacuated safely.

The blaze was extinguished by firefighters just before 9:30 p.m.
