WITCHITA FALLS, Texas — Fire destroyed a family’s home in the 1400 block of North 10th Street on Saturday afternoon.

Battalion Chief Steve Paulson said no one was home at the time, but the family lost some pets.

A good Samaritan, Tim Jarvis, was riding by on his motorcycle and saw smoke. He kicked in the door and was able to save one Chihuahua.

Neighbors said three other dogs were saved but four were lost in the fire.

Paulson said the structure was a mobile home that had been added onto, and there was a storage building in the back. Both were a total loss.

The Red Cross was summoned to help the family.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
