ROBSTOWN, Texas — An early morning fire destroyed two buildings along Main street in Robstown. Four firefighters were hurt, one of them had to taken to the hospital to be treated for burns to his face and arms.

Flames, smoke and fire crews covered Main street in Robstown for most the morning hours Thursday. Fire Chief Ricardo Gonzalez says this fire was a difficult one to fight. “its an older building, tar roof, multiple roofs on them and the age of the building,” Gonzalez said. All are components that make it difficult to fight the fire. Add to those problems - the fact that the buildings, which sit side by side in this business district are also connected.

“The heat transfer is one of the problems we face when buildings are constructed like this,” Gonzalez said. Two hours in, crews faced another problem; a flash fire and wall collapse injured four fire fighters.
