MESA, Ariz. — A man is in the hospital after firefighters pulled him from a burning car parked in the driveway of a Mesa home early Monday morning.
It happened just after midnight in the neighborhood northeast of Alma School and Baseline roads. Homeowner Richard Gengler woke to discover firefighters in his driveway. He said he does not know the victim and did not recognize the car. “I had no clue, never seen it before,” he said.
It’s not clear what sparked the fire but firefighters said it looks like it started under the hood. “I thought the car was going to explode ‘cause you could see just the flames like all over the car,” neighbor Indira Felix said.
