DULUTH, Ga. — A 10-month-old baby died and his parents were badly injured after a fire destroyed a family home in Duluth late Saturday night.
Police found a man yelling in his front yard that his house was on fire and that a child was still inside. The officers broke out a window and got the baby out, and were performing CPR when firefighters arrived.
The child was rushed to a local hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly after arriving, according to Lt. Eric Eberly of the Gwinnett County Fire Department.
The fire broke out in the 2900 block of Main Street about 10 p.m. Duluth police were dispatched to the scene for what they believed to be a domestic dispute after neighbors reported hearing screams.
Two other children, 4 and 2, escaped the fire without injuries. However, both parents were flown to Augusta for treatment at a specialized burn center. The mother is listed in critical condition, while the father is in guarded condition.
Eberly said the mother was trying to rescue the baby when she was overcome by the fire. She was rescued by the father.
