BALTIMORE — Three firefighters were injured and three apartment buildings heavily damaged in a two-alarm fire yesterday at a Randallstown apartment complex, officials said.
Seventeen apartments were damaged in the three adjoining brick buildings in the Brookhaven Estates complex in the 5400 block of Old Court Road, said Lt. John Cromwell, a county fire spokesman. The cause of the fire, which was reported about 2 p.m., was under investigation last night, he said.
One injured firefighter was treated at the burn unit at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and released, Cromwell said. Another firefighter was taken to Sinai Hospital, and a third firefighter was taken to Northwest Hospital Center, he said. None of the firefighters’ injuries was life-threatening, Cromwell said.
Robin Williams, manager at Goldstar Property Management Company, said 18 families were displaced by the fire. She said they would be able to live in vacant apartments in the 583-unit complex. A spokesman for the American Red Cross said last night that the organization is also providing help to the families.
A dollar figure on damage was not immediately available.
More than 100 firefighters and more than 30 firetrucks and other apparatus from Baltimore City and Howard, Carroll and Baltimore counties fought the fire, Cromwell said.
