ANTIOCH, Calif. — Firefighters pulled an 80-year-old Antioch man to safety from his burning home’s second-story window Wednesday, a fire official said.
Crews called to the home on the 4000 block of Meadow Lake Street arrived to find flames pouring out of the first story, said Marshal Lewis Broschard of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District. The home’s resident was waving for help from the upper floor.
Firefighters “took at 24-foot ground ladder, set it against the house and climbed up to help the man,” Broschard said.
Relatives had already left for work, leaving the man alone in the house, Broschard said.
The man, whose name was not released, was treated for smoke inhalation and taken to a hospital.
The fire was probably started by a wood-burning stove on the first floor, Broschard said.
