HARTFORD, Conn. — A volunteer firefighter drove an engine to a fire at his own home in Southington early Friday.
The lieutenant’s engine was the first on scene to battle the blaze at 11 Todd Rd., which claimed the lives of a two family pets, a dog and cat, Battalion Chief Mark Saucier said.
No people were inside the home, which had smoke and flames showing when firefighters arrived at about 9 a.m., Saucier said. The fire may have originated in the kitchen, though the cause is under investigation, he said.
No firefighters were injured in the incident.
The family is currently displaced but the home may be habitable again, Saucier said.
