Elderly couple rescued from Thanksgiving house fire

The wife broke a window and escaped from the rear of the home; her husband was rescued after suffering a cardiac arrest while inside

FORT WORTH, Texas — A husband and wife were hospitalized on Thanksgiving after their house caught fire and he went into cardiac arrest, the Fort Worth Fire Department said.

The fire was called in late Thursday morning in the. The man, 79, was taken by ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital in critical condition, a Fire Department spokesman said.

The man’s wife, 80, was transported to Baylor All Saints Medical Centerr with arm injuries from breaking a window to escape the fire, the spokesman said. She told firefighters where to find her husband.

Nobody else was in the house at the time of the fire. Investigators were trying to determine the cause of the fire early Thursday afternoon.
