OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Firefighters faced an unexpected danger after flames caused ammunition to go off inside a home that caught fire.

Crews were called just before 2 a.m. Tuesday to a home in the 8800 block of Westbrooke Drive. Residents say they awoke to the smell of smoke.

Authorities say significant hoarding issues hindered their ability to fight the fire. Fire crews were also slowed by fireworks and ammunition that began to discharge.
