SUMMIT, Ill. — A mother, father and their two small children were rescued from a blaze that burned a house and two apartment buildings late Wednesday in Summit.
A firefighter also suffered minor injuries from the fire in the 7300 block of West 61st.
At one point during the blaze, firefighters forced their way into the top-floor unit one of the burning buildings to rescue a family of four sleeping in a bedroom, Summit Assistant Fire Chief Rich Gallaga said.
The other residents in the buildings escaped, Gallaga said.
At least five families were displaced by the fire.
