FDNY firefighter suffers ‘life-threatening burns’ at house fire

2-alarm blaze caused burns to 40 percent of firefighter’s body, including head, face, hands, arms; fire injured 3 other firefighters

NEW YORK — A firefighter was hospitalized with “possibly life-threatening” burns to 40 percent of his body from a fire in a brownstone in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, on Monday morning, Fire Department officials said.

The firefighter, whose name was not released, was being treated at William Randolph Hearst Burn Center at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center for burns on his head, face, hands and arms, fire officials said. The firefighter did not appear to have suffered respiratory injuries, though, an official said.

Three other firefighters were also injured, one seriously, in the two-alarm blaze, on the third floor of 1102 Prospect Place near Albany Avenue, which began around 9 a.m. and was under control by 10:15, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
