CHICO, Calif. — A mobile home in a field on Cohasset Road burned down Saturday evening, under unknown circumstances. The fire spawned several more spot fires that occupied firefighters of Cal Fire - Butte County until after 3 a.m.
The mobile home was not occupied by the owners at the time of the fire, but did contain one man who was able to escape uninjured, said firefighter Derick Strick, who responded with Engine Company 2164. Neighbors called in the incident to authorities.
When firefighters arrived, the home was fully involved, and too dangerous to enter. Seven engines, four water-tenders, one fire crew and two volunteer companies, from Chico and Cohasset, responded to the 10:50 p.m. call, said Cal Fire Capt. Kim Person.
The fire did spread to some nearby wild land, but was kept to a minimum and contained by 3:21 a.m.
Person also reported a firefighter was injured during the call, but under unknown circumstances.
Strick called it a “big fire” and said local fire personnel had a “great response” to a “lot of hard work.”
