MAURY COUNTY, Tenn. — Firefighter Will Craft stood outside the charred ruins of the house he grew up in and spoke with the resignation of someone who knows a done deal when he sees it.

“I’m just here to be with Mom and Dad,” he said as fellow firefighters finished the work of drowning the blaze that left his parents and sister homeless after fire broke out in a front room about noon Sunday.

Within minutes of the first alarm, flames had fully engulfed the two-story house at 113 Katie Lane outside the Columbia city limits in Maury County. By the time they were extinguished, the home was a total loss.
