BRIGHTON, N.Y. — Brighton Police and the Brighton Fire Department are praising the work of four first responders from their departments who rescued an elderly woman and her daughter from a house fire.

The two police officers and firefighters worked together to get inside the burning home and get to the victims, 97-year-old Janet Gordon and her 64-year-old daughter Janet Wilson. Crews were called to Landing Park, near Blossom Road, around 3 a.m. They said the fire started in the attic, but it’s not yet clear how it started.

Neighbor Carey Hines woke up to flashes of light and a crackling sound. He saw his neighbor’s home engulfed in flames and called 911, reporting two people trapped in the fire.
