KENTWOOD, Mich. — There was a scary moment for two firefighters early Monday morning. They fell through a floor while fighting a house fire in Kent County.

The good news is that both Kentwood firefighters are okay. They fell through the first floor and into the basement of a home in the 42-hundred block of Arlet Court S.E.

A neighbor spotted the flames and called 9-1-1 around 12:30 a.m.

The two-story home is in a new subdivision, and was vacant at the time of the fire.

A mayday call was issued after the floor gave way. The two firefighters that fell were able to get out with only minor injuries. One was taken to the hospital for a sprained ankle.

Fire crews from Kentwood and Grand Rapids were on the scene.

The fire took just under an hour to extinguish. The home is heavily damaged. Crews are not sure if it was being renovated, but it is known that the electricity in the home was on at the time of the fire.
