RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif.— It was Rancho Cordova PD who first saw flames and a thick, heavy column of black smoke coming out of a home on Malaga Way, but it was Sac Metro Fire tasked with putting out the flames in the middle of the blistering heat wave.

One firefighter from Engine Company 61 was injured during a “flashover” while trying to put out the burning home. That firefighter suffered minor to moderate injuries to the hands, shoulders and face, Metro Fire says.

Officials later announced that another firefighter was also suffered from heat exhaustion while fighting the blaze.
