ROANOKE, Va. — Firefighters saved a cat from a fire that damaged a Northwest Roanoke home Wednesday morning.
The 8:15 a.m. blaze in the 3300 block of Thurman Avenue, near Hershberger and Williamson roads, forced an adult and two children to find another place to live, Roanoke Fire-EMS Department spokeswoman Tiffany Bradbury said.
No one was home when the fire started.
The family’s dog safely fled, and an orange tabby cat was rescued by firefighters, Bradbury said.
Arriving firefighters found heavy smoke billowing from the yellow ranch house.
They cut holes to douse flames in the attic and declared the fire under control in 17 minutes.
The cause of the fire had not been determined Wednesday. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
