SALEM TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Firefighters were able to save a Salem Township mobile home after insulation under it caught on fire Saturday evening.
Resident Brian Keller was attempting to defrost bathroom pipes under his home when the insulation caught fire and the flames spread, said Richard Balick, assistant fire chief at the Slickville Fire Department.
Keller, his wife Anna and their 3-year-old son were uninjured.
Balick said firefighters received the call at 6:47 p.m. and were able to arrive quickly because they were at the fire hall for bingo night. Firefighters were able to contain the fire underneath the Plant Road home after it spread below the kitchen and living room.
“It was kind of amazing that we were able to keep it from getting inside the house,” Balick said
Firefighters stayed at the home until about 10 p.m.
Nothing in the home was damaged but the family did stay with relatives overnight as a precaution, Balick said.
“I don’t want to take a chance of anything flaring up,” he said.
Slickville firefighters invited the couple to bring their son to see Santa Claus on Sunday at the fire station.
“As far as severity, they were very fortunate,” Balick said.
